POSITION:    Community Health Promotion Worker (CHPW)

OVERVIEW:   Under the direction of the Community Services Supervisor,  as directed by the Band Manager, the Community Health Promotion Worker’s duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Design health promotion initiatives, coordination and implementation of educational seminars, workshop sessions, community education resources and activities.
  • Work closely with other departmental staff to develop community work plans and strategies to meet the health needs and priorities identified by the community.
  • Facilitates the integration of health education and promotion into community based initiatives.
  • Monitors community health program activities and delivery methods.
  • Maintains a positive flow of communication and acts as liaison with other First Nations, health related organizations, local community service providers, and provincial health units.
  • Informs and keeps community aware and involved with priorities regarding healthy living.
  • Provides individual and community support, information, guidance and assistance to the community at large.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:  University or College diploma in social or wellness field, experience working with Anishinabek communities.  Knowledge and understanding of First Nation community health and wellness needs and priorities. Must have excellent communication and problem solving skills; valid Ontario Driver’s License; access to personal vehicle; ability to apply Anishinabek values and teachings into programming; Ojibway Language an asset. Availability to work flexible hours to accommodate programming; daytime, evenings and weekends.

SALARY:                                 Range of $15.00 to $18.00 per hour

                                                37.5 (Flexible) Hours Per Week
