POSITION:           Bookkeeper, Finance and Personnel

OVERVIEW:        Under the direction of the Band Manager, the Bookkeeper’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintenance of the financial and personnel computerized accounting/bookkeeping systems.
  • Preparation and processing of accounts receivable and payable functions.
  • Administration of payroll, including benefits administration.
  • Reconciliation of monthly bank accounts and corresponding journal entries.
  • Preparation of monthly in-house financial statements.
  • Preparation of and generation of all year-end working documentation and related year-end work in preparation for audit.
  • Ongoing maintenance of personnel files; reporting requirements for associated agencies.
  • Ongoing financial maintenance and reporting as required by all funding agents.
  • Security and integrity of financial, accounting and related business data on a daily, weekly and monthly basis including data storage at offsite storage location as designated.
  • Maintenance of staff attendance and time records.
  • Maintenance of Tangible Capital Assets database.
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • Post Secondary education in accounting, business administration or related fields.
  • Minimum three years experience and knowledge in the areas of Human Resource, Canada Labour Codes and employment statutes.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Accpac Accounting Software for Windows is a solid requirement.  Must be able to generate full set of financial reports up to and including Financial Statements as well as experience in budget control.
  • Excellent understanding of Tangible Capital Assets requirements.
  • Proficiency in office automation systems (i.e. Windows 7, Microsoft Office Professional 2007).
  • A working knowledge of the Indian Act and previous experience working with First Nations is an asset.

 SALARY:                                               $18.00 to $20.00/hr
