ORIGINAL BIRTH DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
We recently received a high priority email from John Ross A/Supervisor at INAC regarding a directive from INAC Head Quarters which requires that ONLY original Birth Registration documents issued by a Vital Statistics authority will be acceptable for Birth Registrations. Faxed or photocopied birth documents will be returned. Original documents for registration purposes will be verified for authenticity and scanned to the Indian Registration System. They will then be returned to the sender by registered mail. In Ontario, all original Statements of live birth are shown as “Certified a True Photostatic Print of a Record”. The “original” copy of that document as issued by Vital Statistics is required. WE must be able to feel the seal at the bottom to verify the authenticity. So no more photocopies or certified copies accepted, they will accept the originals only. This requirement brings the registration process in line with the new secure Certificate of Indian Status application process and ensures the integrity and security of the information contained in the Indian Registry System.
