Pow Wow 2011

August 6th and 7th of 2011 MFN held its 2nd annual Jiingdamok (place of gathering), with grand entries at 1pm and 7pm on Saturday and 1pm on Sunday.  Host drums were the White Frost Sobriety Drum with Co-Host Black Fox, a Michipicoten First Nation boys drum group.  Other drum groups came and joined in as invited from Pic Mobert First Nation`s Fearless Ojibwes; other boys drum group; as well as the Under the Pines and Nimkii Nookimis.  Head veteran was Robert Big Track while flags and eagle staff were carried during grand entries.  Head male and female dancers were Steve Nolan and Barbara Day from Garden River, and junior male and female dancers were Hayden and Eva Recollet from Wikwemikong.  Members of Michipicoten, their families and friends and honoured guests joined the dance, activities and events over the two days.  The Pow Wow was celebrated at the finale of Michipicoten`s Annual Youth and Elders Gathering, held in early August each year bringing members and family and friends together to share in traditional teachings, workshops, social events and community feasts.  The 2012 Annual Gathering and Pow Wow will be held from August 7-12, 2012.  Everyone is welcome.
