This summer the Sault Ste. Marie project in Ontario had the pleasure of working with Cain Miller, a member of the Michipicoten First Nation (MFN).

Cain has worked the past three summers on the Michipicoten Reserve in Wawa, Ontario, cutting grass, painting and performing other maintenance tasks. MFN wanted  to provide off-reserve work experiences for students to give them a broader view of workplace opportunities.

Through an eight-week program with MFN and Transfield Services, Cain worked with the Sault Ste. Marie project’s Wawa Patrol on a wide variety of tasks, including culvert surveys, guiderail repair, patching, washout repair and patrol yard maintenance.

The experience has been very positive for both Cain and Transfield Services, and the Sault Ste. Marie project hopes for this partnership with MFN to continue for years to come.
