MFN and Wawa State of Emergency, October 2012…
We are pleased to provide a day by day report and photographs from the devastating flooding that occurred in late October of this year, in and around Wawa and Michipicoten First Nation. This was a tragic experience for all concerned but thankfully no one was injured and no major damages to the community were sustained, with the exception of access road closures and washouts, and the loss of a portion of the rail bed.
This has been an important learning experience for all concerned and we hope to come away with more detailed planning in the future.
Our gratitude goes out to all emergency and government agencies, the Municipality of Wawa and the CCG group, our staff, member assistants and especially to our members and residents in the community for their patience and perseverance during this stressful experience.
