Summer Student Job Opportunities

There are four types of positions available in the Wawa area for Students. The link is included with a brief description of the position. Click the blue position title for the link. Note the date the applications must be due by!

 

STUDENT – ASSISTANT RESOURCE MANAGEMENT TECHNICIAN

As an Assistant Resource Management Technician, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:

  • Aid staff with information management of Crown land by distributing land use permits, work permits, leases, etc., and by conducting site visits.
  • Support the Aggregates program by inspecting aggregate operations and assisting with compliance monitoring.
  • Provide assistance to the Fish and Wildlife program by conducting research, including fieldwork, to assemble and draft information, including writing reports on fish and wildlife resources.
  • Provide assistance to the Forestry program by conducting field work involved with Silvicultural Effectiveness Monitoring and assisting with forest compliance inspections.
  • Provide administrative support, including organizing files and publications.
  • Provide support to local office programs and committees, including the Joint Health and Safety Committee and the Wellness Committee.
  • Assist with outreach activities, such as speaking with the public/delivering presentations, and providing information to the public to educate/generate awareness.

Note: You will be working outdoors and in diverse weather conditions, and may be required to operate boats, motors, ATVs, and other specialized equipment/tools.

STUDENT – FIRE ASSISTANT

As a Fire Assistant, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:

  • Assist with information management in support of planning, media relations, promotions, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), fire and emergency response programs delivery.
  • Help with equipment maintenance and repair, conduct warehouse and inventory duties, and support science and technology projects related to the fire program.
  • Aid with resource management programs by travelling with staff on field trips to conduct surveys, data collection, mapping, inspections, and interviews.
  • Provide administrative and clerical support, including organizing and maintaining files for electronic and manual records/data (e.g. applications for employment, personnel fire history, and qualifications), and provide word processing support (e.g. compose routine correspondence, prepare reports, presentations, graphics, etc.).

Note: You may be required to work outdoors.

STUDENT – FISH & WILDLIFE ASSISTANT

As a Fish & Wildlife Assistant, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:

  • Assist staff by performing field work to complete fish and wildlife population and habitat assessments, including aerial and ground surveys, and flora and fauna species identification, as well as assisting with project planning, support, and implementation.
  • Assist staff by performing research and data compilation, including assembling information from hardcopy and digital sources, performing data entry, and preparing a variety of documents.
  • Provide customer service assistance by responding to clients, staff, and the public to address their needs.
  • Perform office and administrative duties (e.g. filing, photocopying, etc.).

STUDENT – GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS) ASSISTANT

As a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Assistant, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:

  • Assist staff with data collection, trend analysis, and simple map preparation using Geographic Information System (GIS) software.
  • Collect, review, verify, and enter information/data into databases/forms, as well as perform analysis and evaluation of information and data to produce reports.
  • Provide customer service assistance by responding to public and/or internal inquiries.
  • Field work may include technical investigations, inspections, and site visits.
  • Office work may include graphic design for image reorganization/optimization and printing support.
  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and manage daily assigned work.
