Community Story Consultation – Sudbury
Feb 21 @ 4:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Michipicoten First Nation has begun a process of Comprehensive Community Planning (CCP) that will result in the production of a 10- to 20-year Community Development Plan for our First Nation.

Every citizen of MFN is invited to participate in this process through open community meetings and online opportunities.

The first very important step in the process is called the “Community Story”. This is essentially a needs assessment and visioning process that engages community members in looking at our situation (past, present and desirable future) in order to identify strategic pathways that lead to the future we want for our people.

Every aspect of our life will be considered, including the well-being of our people (children, youth, women, men, elders, families) and the effective functioning of our community systems (cultural and spiritual life, social life, political life and governance, caring for our lands and resources, economic life, and our relationships to the wider communities around us).

Scheduled Consultations

Sudbury: Thursday, February 21, 2019, 4:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn (dinner will be served)

Sault Ste. Marie: Friday, February 22, 2019, 4:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Quattro (dinner will be served)

On-line Conference: Tuesday, February 26, 6 – 8 p.m. EST (link to be announced)

The Process in a Nutshell

Initial meetings were held for on-Reserve and residents nearby (e.g. Wawa and Hornepayne) on December 18 –19, 2018. A first draft report of what the people shared entitled “The Michipicoten Community Story – First Draft” is available on the MFN website or at the Band office. Subsequent community input from the scheduled consultations in other locations and the online session will be integrated into a second draft report, which will then be circulated to all members for review. After input from the review and verification process, the CCP committee will then finalize the report and move on to the plan making stage of the process.
