MFN – Results of 2015-16 General Assessment

MFN – Results of 2015-16 General Assessment

Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) and Health Canada annually conduct the General Assessment (GA) which is a tool that is currently used to provide a recipient-focused, risk-based approach to transfer payment management for First Nations.  It provides a standardized process to assessing capacity to deliver programs and services. MFN has been informed of the results of the annual assessment which was carried out between August 2015 and November 2015, which generates a resulting overall risk rating.  We are pleased to announce that MFN received a “low” risk rating again this year, which is the best score provided, under the following categories:

.        Governance – Low Risk

.        Planning – Low Risk

.        Financial Management – Low Risk

.        Program Management – Low Risk

Flag Raising Ceremony November 10, 2015

In an historic event and ceremony, Michipicoten First Nation flags were raised in Wawa on November 10, 2015. Mayor Ron Rody presented Councillor William Swanson (acting for Chief Buckell) with a tobacco tie and Councillor Swanson presented two MFN flags which were raised on the main street of Wawa, symbolic of the two communities sharing the traditional territories of MFN. The event was well attended and refreshments were served at the MFN Cultural Lodge which is located behind Michipicoten High School.
