Open House – White River Forest Management Plan

You are invited to an open house on the White River Forest Management Plan. It will be held at the Michipicoten Band Hall on Thursday, November 9th from 4:30-6:30 PM. MFN and MNRF staff will be on hand to hear concerns, answer questions, and provide information.

Freezing Moon Ceremony

The Freezing Moon Ceremony will be held Monday, November 6th at the Miigizi Suswiin Complex, Michipicoten First Nation at 6 p.m. with teachings to begin, and ceremony to follow.

The November Moon is the eleventh moon of creation, the “Freezing Moon”. A time when the Star Nation is closest to us. As every creature and being prepares for the coming fasting grounds, we are reminded to prepare ourselve for our spiritual path by learning the sacred teachings and songs that will sustain us.

What to bring:

Ladies, bring your skirt and drum,

Tobaccco – we have tobacco if you don’t have your own

Water – we have water if you forgot to get yours

Your Feast Bundle – we will have plates and utensils if you do not have a bundle,

You are welcome to bring something for the feast… We will have Berries for the feast.

Ghost Ceremony

John Bobbiwash and his drummers will be hosting a Ghost Ceremony on Saturday, October 28th at 12 Noon. The ceremony will take place at the Medicine Cave and the Cemetery on Harbour Road.

MNRF – Ontario’s Wildlife Management Strategy

Are you interested in wildlife management?

No? Well, are you interested in hunting, fishing or trapping?

Then you are interested in Wildlife Management!

The MNRF will be at the Michipicoten Band Office on Wednesday, October 25th from 9:30 to 12 Noon to discuss Ontario’s wildlife management strategy. We welcome your participation.

Elder Willard Pine in MFN Today – October 24

Elder Willard Pine will be in the Community today, Tuesday, October 24th, 2017 for a presentation and healing from 3 – 5 p.m. There will be a Community Feast at 5 p.m.

Elder Willard will also have one-on-one sessions from 6 – 8 p.m. for members that would like to visit with him (sign-up seat available at the Complex).

He will also be available Wednesday, October 25th, 2017 for one-on-one visits at 3 Maple Street in Wawa from 9 – 11 a.m. (sign-up sheet available at 3 Maple Street.

Notice to Members – 2017 Benefit Programs

The last payout for the 2017 Benefit Programs will be on December 3, 2017.

Requests must be in the office no later than November 16, 2017.

We have funds available for Home Maintenance, Health Promotion, Elementary and Secondary Education Incentives as well as one spot for the High School Graduation Program (this is a first come, first served). If you know someone who hasn’t yet applied for the benefit programs, please pass on the notice.

When applying be sure to include the name of the program you are applying for, along with your receipts or report cards, with your name, address, phone number, date of birth and status number.

Dinner & Supercom Industries Presentation

Supercom Industries will be visiting Michipicoten First Nation to update citizens about the East-West Tie Transmission Project and the training opportunities that will exist in the very near future. Interested citizens are invited for a presentation, dinner, and chances to win gift cards for attending.

The evening will begin at the Band Hall with Dinner on Wednesday, October 18th at 5 p.m. with the presentation to follow. The presentation should be about 30 minutes in length with plenty of time for questions.
